/ SPECIALIZATION/SAAS DEVELOPMENT

From zero to production SaaS: engineered for the day after launch.

We partner with founders to define, architect, and ship SaaS products — multi-tenant data isolation, dependable billing lifecycles, and interfaces that hold up under real operational load.

Reference Architecture

Multi-Tenant SaaS Foundation Topology

Row-level securitySSO / SAMLAudit trail
Tier 01

Data Partitioning

Postgres Row-Level Security with dedicated tenant keys. Moving a large account to its own database later doesn't require rewriting the app.

Policy on every tenant-scoped table
Isolation enforced at the database layer
Tier 02

Identity & SSO

Stateless JWT sessions with Redis-backed revocation lists. SAML 2.0 / Okta integration, OAuth providers, passkeys, and multi-tenant org switching.

Claims: [org_id, role, perms[]]
Short-lived, refreshable sessions
Tier 03

Billing Lifecycle

Idempotent event reconciliation with Stripe and Paddle. Automated seat proration, tier gate entitlement hooks, dunning workflows, and automated invoice delivery.

Event: invoice.payment_succeeded
Retries with dead-letter queues
Tier 04

RBAC & Audit Logs

Hierarchical permission sets (Owner, Admin, Member, Auditor) backed by immutable append-only compliance logs recording actor, IP, timestamp, and entity diffs.

Policy: can("repo:export", actor)
Exportable audit history
The Brutal Realities of SaaS

Four engineering traps we design against.

Most early SaaS builds don’t fail on market interest; they fail because early shortcuts make the first enterprise requirements expensive to absorb.

Our Engineering Stance

We don't ship disposable code. Foundations are built modular, lean enough to run cheaply, and structured so added capacity is a configuration change, not a rewrite.

Trap 01: The "Rewrite in Month 6"

Tightly Coupled Domain Models

Rushing to launch by mixing business rules into controllers and UI state. The first request for custom pricing, white-labeling, or webhook dispatch turns into a rewrite.

How Grotics Prevents This:

Clean domain boundaries from the start. New payment methods, permissions, or customer logic slot in without touching the core.

Trap 02: Billing & Entitlement Hell

Brittle Third-Party Webhook Assumptions

Payment provider webhooks arrive out of order, drop silently, or get duplicated. Without an idempotent settlement ledger, users get locked out or access paid tiers for free.

How Grotics Prevents This:

Transactional outbox patterns, signature verification, and state-machine reconcilers keep entitlements consistent with what customers actually pay for.

Trap 03: Multi-Tenant Data Leaks

Ad-Hoc SQL Query Scoping

Relying on developers to remember WHERE tenant_id = x in every query is one forgotten query away from a data leak.

How Grotics Prevents This:

Postgres Row-Level Security and tenant-aware middleware run on every transaction, so isolation doesn't depend on anyone remembering a WHERE clause.

Trap 04: Premature Microservices

Over-Engineered Cloud Complexity

Kubernetes fleets bolted onto a young product mean heavy maintenance, distributed debugging, and slow iterations.

How Grotics Prevents This:

A modular monolith with distinct internal boundaries. Deploys stay simple, iterations stay fast, and services can be extracted later when real load demands it.

Architecture & Features

The foundation included in every SaaS build.

We don't start from an empty editor. Your business logic is built on substrate components we've already hardened: auth, tenancy, billing, and audit.

Tenant Provisioning & Routing

Automated organization setup, custom subdomain mapping (e.g. acme.yourproduct.com), SSL cert automation, and isolated configuration storage.

  • Automated CNAME resolution via Cloudflare
  • Self-serve member invite workflows

Enterprise Auth & SSO

Passwordless auth, passkeys, and OAuth 2.0, plus SAML 2.0 / OIDC integrations for enterprise buyers requiring Okta, Azure AD, or PingIdentity.

  • SCIM provisioning
  • Step-up 2FA with WebAuthn & TOTP

Billing & Entitlement Engine

Configurable subscription plans, seat-based licenses, usage meters, tax compliance, proration calculations, and customer portal self-management.

  • Stripe Billing / Paddle / LemonSqueezy
  • Feature-flag entitlement sync

Granular RBAC & Audit Trail

Declarative role inheritance and fine-grained resource permission checks, backed by an append-only audit trail of reads, mutations, and authentication events.

  • Controls that support SOC 2 / HIPAA audits
  • Immutable JSON log aggregation

Async Workers & Webhooks

Robust asynchronous background queuing for PDF generation, bulk data ingestion, outbound webhook dispatches with exponential backoff, and transactional notifications.

  • Redis / BullMQ / Temporal engine
  • Customer outbound webhook console

Telemetry & Observability

Deep OpenTelemetry instrumentation, distributed request tracing, per-tenant resource utilization dashboards, and early warning anomaly alerts before users notice.

  • Sentry / Datadog / OpenTelemetry ready
  • Query-level tracing

Clear Answers

Frequently asked questions by SaaS founders.

Pragmatic answers on timelines, co-development, and how we protect your budget from endless scope creep.

How long does a production v1 usually take?

After scoping, we agree on a v1 cutline and estimate from it. Engagements run in two-week sprints with working staging deployments at every gate, and most of that time goes into your product's core workflow — not boilerplate.

How do you handle scope creep during v1 development?

We operate with strict time-boxed sprints and trade-off matrices. If user discovery mid-flight shows a new feature is vital, we explicitly replace an equivalent-weight feature from the backlog rather than ballooning timeline or burn rate.

Do you assist with SOC2 or enterprise security audits?

We build with audits in mind: encryption at rest, centralized identity logs, tenant boundaries enforced in the database, audit logging, and dependency vulnerability alerts. We support the certification process; the certification itself is yours.

Can our in-house engineers join during the development sprints?

Absolutely. We often work alongside founding CTOs and early hires: shared PR reviews, regular async check-ins, and pairing sessions, so your team owns the codebase on launch day.

What We Review In Your Scoping Call:

  • Tenant Isolation Model: Determining whether your compliance mandates require schema isolation or row-level partitioning.
  • Billing Architecture: Reviewing seat vs consumption monetization logic and subscription upgrade flows.
  • MVP Cutline: Distinguishing non-negotiable v1 mechanics from secondary features to meet tight launch windows.
